Hong Kong feels like a short hop from Pakistan, but the paperwork is where most trips get stuck. There's no visa on arrival, no e-visa shortcut and no "we'll sort it at the airport". The good news is that the process is predictable once you know what the officers want to see. At Trips.pk we prepare Hong Kong files regularly, so this guide sticks to what actually matters, in plain language.
Do Pakistanis Need a Visa for Hong Kong?
Yes. Hong Kong runs its own immigration system, separate from mainland China, and Pakistani citizens must hold a visa before travelling for any purpose: tourism, family visits, study or work. That also means a Chinese visa doesn't cover Hong Kong, and a Hong Kong visa doesn't cover the mainland. If you want to add Beijing or Shanghai to the trip, you'll need a separate permit, and our guide to the China visa from Pakistan explains how that works.
One more surprise: Hong Kong has no embassy in Pakistan, so there's nobody to book an appointment with. Applications go straight to the Hong Kong Immigration Department.
What a Hong Kong Visit Visa Covers
What you can do
Holidays, family visits and short stays are the standard use. Be honest about your purpose. A mismatch between your stated plan and your documents is a quick route to refusal.
What you can't do
A visit visa doesn't allow work (paid or unpaid), starting or joining a business, or enrolling in a course. Visitors also can't normally switch to another status after landing. If your real goal is a job or a degree, you need that category from the very beginning, with a Hong Kong employer or institution behind you.
Single or multiple entry?
First-time applicants should expect a single-journey visa. Multiple-journey visas are mostly given to frequent visitors, typically people with three or more trouble-free trips in the last twelve months, or those whose visits clearly benefit Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Visa Requirements for Pakistani Citizens
Hong Kong asks for the application form (ID 1003A), a recent photo and proof of your planned visit. Beyond that, the officer is judging two things: can you afford this trip, and will you go home afterwards? This is the checklist we use for Pakistani applicants.

How much bank balance do you need?
There's no official minimum. As a working benchmark, we like to see a closing balance of around PKR 1 million, with steady activity across all six months. A large deposit made just before applying looks worse than a modest, consistent balance.
Do you need a sponsor?
It's not compulsory, but a friend, relative or company in Hong Kong who completes form ID 1003B can make your file easier to assess.
How to Apply for a Hong Kong Visa from Pakistan
Follow these steps in order:
Confirm your purpose. Make sure a visit visa really fits what you plan to do.
Collect your documents. Use the checklist above and compare every name and date against your passport.
Complete form ID 1003A. Sign it and attach your photo. If you have a sponsor, they fill in ID 1003B.
Submit to the Hong Kong Immigration Department. Applications go in directly, and the current submission options are listed on the official Hong Kong visit visa and entry permit page.
Wait, and reply quickly. If the department asks for more information, answer fast. Repeated status enquiries tend to slow things down rather than help.
Pay once approved. The approval notice comes with a payment link.
Print and pack. Carry the approval with your passport, hotel booking and return ticket.
Tip: Don't buy non-refundable flights until the approval is in your hands. Choose fares and hotels with free cancellation while you wait.
Hong Kong Visa Fee from Pakistan 2026
The government fee is charged in Hong Kong dollars, so the rupee amount moves with the exchange rate. That's why any website quoting one fixed PKR figure for it deserves a little suspicion. Here's how the full cost usually breaks down.

Hong Kong Visa Processing Time
The Immigration Department normally needs around four weeks once it has received every required document. Missing papers don't just slow the file down, they stop it from being processed at all. Our own preparation takes about five working days, but that's separate from the official decision time.

Why Hong Kong Applications Get Delayed or Refused
Refusals are rarely dramatic. They're usually small cracks that add up:
A missing signature or an unsigned form
Names or dates that don't match across documents
Thin or erratic bank activity, or unexplained large deposits
A vague itinerary with no hotel or return ticket
Weak proof of a job, business or family back home
A stated purpose that doesn't match the documents
If you've been refused before, say so upfront. It changes how the new file should be built.
Smart Tips Before You Apply
Use identical spellings of your name on every document.
Explain unusual income, such as freelance work or remittances, in a short note.
If you're self-employed, add your NTN, business registration and recent tax returns.
Build a realistic itinerary. Five to seven well-planned days look more credible than a vague two-week plan.
Planning Your First Hong Kong Trip
Once approval arrives, the fun part starts. A few ideas for a first visit:
Victoria Peak for the skyline, ideally at sunset
Star Ferry across the harbour, one of the cheapest memorable rides anywhere
Temple Street Night Market for street food and bargains
Dim sum in a local teahouse rather than a tourist restaurant
Autumn, roughly October to December, is usually the most comfortable season. Get an Octopus card for trains, buses and convenience stores, and carry some cash for smaller eateries.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Hong Kong visa on arrival for Pakistanis?
No. You must hold an approved visa before you board your flight.
Can I apply for a Hong Kong visa online from Pakistan?
You apply directly to the Hong Kong Immigration Department, whose website explains the current submission options.
How long does it take to get a Hong Kong visa from Pakistan?
Expect around four weeks after the department has received all your documents.
Can I work in Hong Kong on a visit visa?
No, whether paid or unpaid. Work and study each need their own visa category.
Can I use the same visa to visit mainland China or Macau?
No. Both have separate entry rules, so check them before booking onward travel.
What should I do if my visa is refused?
Work out which part of the file was weak, fix it and reapply. Sending the same file again rarely changes the result.
